About

The Android Browser, often referred to as the "stock" or "legacy" browser, was the default web browser on Android devices before the widespread adoption of Google Chrome. First introduced in 2008, it was based on the WebKit rendering engine and later switched to Chromium in later versions. It provided basic web browsing features, including tabbed browsing and bookmark synchronization.

As Android evolved, Google Chrome gradually replaced the Android Browser as the default option, starting with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. By Android 5.0 Lollipop, the legacy browser was fully deprecated in favor of Chrome. While some manufacturers continued to preinstall modified versions, official support and development ceased, making it largely obsolete.
