Microsoft Edge is a web browser developed by Microsoft, first introduced in 2015 as the successor to Internet Explorer. Initially built on Microsoft’s proprietary EdgeHTML engine, it was designed to be a modern, lightweight browser with integration into Windows 10 features like Cortana and annotation tools. However, in 2020, Microsoft relaunched Edge using the Chromium engine, aligning it with modern web standards and significantly improving compatibility, performance, and extension support.

The Chromium-based Edge is available on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, with features such as tracking prevention, vertical tabs, and deep integration with Microsoft services like Bing and Office 365. Microsoft continues to develop Edge as a key part of its ecosystem, positioning it as a competitor to Chrome while offering enterprise-focused tools and privacy enhancements.
