About

Internet Explorer (IE) was a web browser developed by Microsoft and included as the default browser in the Windows operating system from 1995 to 2015. It was initially released as part of the Windows 95 Plus! pack and became one of the most widely used browsers in the late 1990s and early 2000s. IE went through several iterations, introducing features such as tabbed browsing, enhanced security settings, and support for newer web standards over time.

Despite its early dominance, Internet Explorer eventually fell behind in performance and compatibility, with users and developers increasingly favoring browsers like Firefox and Google Chrome. Microsoft began phasing out IE in favor of Microsoft Edge, which was introduced in 2015 with a new, Chromium-based engine. As of June 15, 2022, Microsoft officially retired Internet Explorer, ending support for the browser and encouraging users to switch to Edge or other modern alternatives.
